"These engravings by Mónica Morais - etchings, aquatint and engravings, tell us about the deepest most intimate details of her psyche using the natural metaphors of a tiny twig swinging in the wind, a leaf that flies as if it had wings, a shadow that falls on a wall and even the wind that swirls around a branch. The engravings are magnificently coloured with the dark greens that are found in dark rooms and old rust colours from years of oxidisation that give the figures a thoughtful pause, almost a meditation as we wander through the inner rooms of someone's soul.

In her ability to stop time to think or meditate, I can see an oriental influence, very Japanese in this case, where art has always been used to improve the appearance of things and living creatures, quite the opposite of what happens in the west, always trying to make what is actually the same, different and only different in the each one's feelings."
